As a seventh-grader, was diagnosed with scoliosis. The Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Ark., determined he had a 26-percent curvature of the spine and advised him to wear a back brace 23 hours a day. Two years later, with the curvature reaching 51 percent, he underwent surgery. Without the procedure, the pressure on his lungs and heart might have become life-threatening. Surgeons attached a 16-inch metal road to his spine to facilitate straightening.

Remarkably, just months later he returned to his high school golf team, and playing in a back brace, won medalist honors at a district tournament. In 2009, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences established The Ken Duke Endowed Chair in Scoliosis. Funds from the charity treat spinal deformities, tumors and fractures.

He credits his dad for giving him his start in golf but says legendary instructor Bob Toski changed his swing and his life. His biggest golf thrill was playing a round at Augusta National in 2009 with Toski, who was 82 at the time.

Was inducted into the Arkansas Golf Hall of Fame in October 2013 at Pleasant Valley CC in Little Rock. Pledged $25,000 to Travelers Championship charities at awards ceremony after his 2013 victory, issuing a personal check before leaving TPC River Highlands that evening.

Ken Duke & Friends
Bucks For Birdies

In 2016 Ken's vision of founding a non-profit organization to support well deserving local and national organizations came to life!  After a meeting of friends and family the Inaugural Ken Duke & Friends Celebrity Pro-Am was born! Each year a great dinner, concert and day of golf are had by everyone that attends this great weekend.  Each year the board chooses wonderful national and local organizations to benefit from Ken's charitable mission.  Over the first four year's the event has donated almost $500,000 to the beneficiaries.

Bucks for Birdies continues to be a staple in Ken's Charitable Missions!  Over the years this fun competition of guessing Ken's birdie count has supported many great charities in addition to funding the Ken Duke Golf Center at Henderson State University!  Winners each year can choose one gift from a group of prizes, one being a chance to play golf with Ken.

Bob Toski has changed my life, my swing, and the consistency has been night and day! Coach has made it fun to play golf again!  He has been around the best, Hogan, Snead, Nelson, and so many more. He has been around all those guys and played with those guys. Just good vibes come from when I am around him. It’s really special.
